2011-06-30 I 06:43Welcome! This is a website for the new feature documentary by Yolanda Pividal: Fighting Kites. Here you will find all of the updates and info on the film. The film is estimated to be complete in Fall 2011 as of right now and we hope that you'll take the time to see it when released!
As you can read on the website, Fighting Kites is the story of four working children from the recently demolished slums of "La Nueva Esperanza" in the busiest border city in the world: Tijuana. The story, told through a poetic lens from the children's point of view, doesn't talk about people crossing the border but about the invisible borders that cross people's lives at the foot of the most powerful nation in the world.
Fighting Kites was shot just a few months before the slums were beginning to be demolished and hundreds of people were displaced to make room for malls and new assembly plants. Although the place where they learned from diving for scrap metal to flying kites has been swept away, these children's stories will continue as they live on, and as borders nest "Nueva Esperanzas" and "other sides" around the world.
As we move forward, getting closer and closer to our final cut, we will keep you updated here so please check back in...
